Exam 1Y0-312 topic 1 question 2 discussion

Actual exam question from Citrix's 1Y0-312
Question #: 2
Topic #: 1
[All 1Y0-312 Questions]

Scenario: A Citrix Engineer is managing a large environment with multiple locations. The setup is as follows:
- The setup has a single Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops site with multiple zones such as a Primary zone and 3 Satellite zones.
-Virtual Delivery Agents (VDAs) are available for all applications in all 3 Satellite zones.
-An application 'app1' has its application database located in Satellite zone.
-As a sovereign mandate, it is desirable that this application database should NOT be accessible from zones 2 and 3.
-The application does NOT create any database cache and cannot work if the database is NOT reachable. -The outage is acceptable for complying with the sovereign mandate.
Which zone preference should the engineer configure to achieve this setup?

  • A. Mandatory application home to Satellite zone 1
  • B. User home to Satellite zone 1
  • C. Mandatory user home to Satellite zone 1
  • D. Application home to Satellite zone 1

Selected Answer: A
Answer: A. Mandatory application home to Satellite zone 1 Reasoning: Configuring 'app1' as mandatory application home to Satellite zone 1 ensures that the application and its resources, including the database, will always operate within Satellite zone 1. This setup aligns with the sovereign mandate that restricts database access from zones 2 and 3, even if Virtual Delivery Agents (VDAs) are available in those zones. A is correct - from training: "A mandatory application home will prevent a session from being launched in an alternate zone if an applications home zone is not available". And they say: "outage is acceptable to comply sovereign mandate" that is: "a DB should NOT be accessible from other zones"

A: is Correct - Mandatory application home zone use: Similarly, when you configure a home zone for an application, you can indicate that the application should be launched only in that zone, with no failover to a different zone if resources are not available in the application’s home zone. Is it D because - The application does NOT create any database cache and cannot work if the database is NOT reachable. -The outage is acceptable for complying with the sovereign mandate?

Don't you think it should be A - Mandatory application home to Satellite Zone 1? Mandatory application home zone use: Similarly, when you configure a home zone for an application, you can indicate that the application should be launched only in that zone, with no failover to a different zone if resources are not available in the application’s home zone.

D should be correct Look for "application home" in https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xenapp-and-xendesktop/7-15-ltsr/manage-deployment/zones.html#zone-preference

You guys are right, it better to be A. "Mandatory application home zone use: Similarly, when you configure a home zone for an application, you can specify “launch the application only in that zone, with no failover to a different zone if resources are not available in the application’s home zone.”"
