They were submitted this way so we can all communicate with explanations, so we actually learn instead of memorizing answers.

There are deliberately wrong answers in here to basically keep comptia from shutting down this free source. I saw that when I was going through the security+ questions. Go by the most voted.

SODIMM IS USED BY THE LAPTOPS, NOT THE DIMMS. SO, THE ANSWER SHOULD BE OPTION (A).

A is correct because. A filesystem check shows that all files are accessible and the filesystem is clean. After the check, the PC still issues a hard drive error message

Definitely not C, DIMM is for a desktop RAM, and this is a laptop hard drive problem

Hard drive issues = S.M.A.R.T. Answer A.

The answer cannot be DIMM as this is RAM and the question is asking about Hard drives not RAM.

the problem say LAPTOP ...and laptops uses SODIMM however SODIMM stands for RAM not Hard Drive.. however smart error is always related with Hard Drive so answer is A. S.M.A.R.T failure

I have worked in environments where SMART failures were ignored because OS or software test passed and the hard drive ended up failing. SMART errors are specific to the brand/vendor/model, OS or software tests are generic tests that apply to hard drives of different brands.

S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) is found in modern hard drives to monitor various aspects of drive health and performance. If a S.M.A.R.T failure is detected, it can indicate potential issues with the hard drive, such as bad sectors, impending drive failure, or other hardware problems. DIMM failure (Option C) refers to problems with the computer's memory (RAM) and is unrelated to hard drive issues.

Okay here me out.. So, I just had virtual training with this professor and he gave us a powerpoint of 100 questions and this is a question on it. On the powerpoint the correct answer is listed as RAID failure so it makes me wonder lol

Based on the information provided, the most likely cause of the error is a S.M.A.R.T. failure (Option A). S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) is a monitoring system for hard drives that can detect and report on various indicators of drive reliability. If a S.M.A.R.T. failure is reported, it means that the hard drive is at risk for imminent failure1. A S.M.A.R.T. error is a prediction that the diagnostic test will soon fail1. Even if all files are accessible and the filesystem is clean, a S.M.A.R.T. failure indicates that there are underlying hardware issues with the hard drive that could lead to data loss. It’s important to back up any important data and consider replacing the hard drive if a S.M.A.R.T. failure is reported.

Selected Answer: A
S.M.A.R.T is a built-in monitoring system for modern hard drives that monitors hard drives health and performance. S.M.A.R.T errors are specific to the physical health of the hard drive itself, which can be unrelated to the files of the filesystem. It can detect potential issues with the hard drive and report them to the OS.

What is a SMART failure? When a hard drive has come to the point where it has become unusable, it is reported as a SMART failure. While it can't detect or predict all hard drive issues, it's still a helpful tool to find problems before the drive inevitably fails.

Option A, this is a hard drive which eliminates DIMM as that is memory not mass storage. Smart Errors are exactly what the described issue is.
